Jamiko is Zhamal — it's what her family have always called her.
She makes everything here herself, one piece at a time, on a single machine in Staten Island. That's the whole business, and it's on purpose. It's why six pieces is a real order rather than something a bigger shop turns away, why nothing leaves without her having looked at it, and why "ready in five days" is a promise instead of a place in a queue.
Most of what she makes is meant for one particular person — a name, a date, a first birthday, a shirt that belonged to somebody who isn't here any more. Those can't be remade from stock if they go wrong, so they get made slowly and checked twice. That's also why you'll always see a proof before anything is stitched.
If you're not sure whether something can be embroidered, just ask. The answer is usually yes.
